Ethical training and internal standards

Integrity is a value shared by our staff. We observe the highest ethical standards when serving our customers, partners and our colleagues.

To follow up on the integrity training provided to all staff in 2004/05, Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) talks, focusing on the anti-corruption law, were arranged for officers and other grades staff in August and December 2005. The talks were arranged with a view to consolidating staff’s learning and to inculcate the best practice of observing the highest ethical standards.

In order to assess the Land Registry’s observance of ethical standards in the day-to-day operation and provision of service to customers in an objective way, we have invited the ICAC to conduct an Assignment Study on our search services in early 2006. In their Assignment Study Report on the Land Registry Public Search Procedures issued in March 2006, the ICAC confirmed an overall satisfactory review result over our current search procedures and practices. They are satisfied with the essential monitoring control and checks and balances that we have built in and recognized that there are clear procedural guidelines for our staff to follow. At the conclusion of the study the ICAC has made some recommendations for further improvement. We have already taken steps to implement these recommendations. We plan to invite the ICAC to conduct a similar Assignment Study on our registration services later in the year.
